I just took a look at Mt St Helens and it looks like there is a lot of activity. Does all that cloudy looking smoke come from the volcano or am I seeing clouds. If it's from the volcano, it's a lot of activity! -- posted by Tina_Coruth

Wow! Great image today! I, too, wonder if that's clouds or smoke. Do you know, Jerri? -- posted by Joy Butler » jerrib - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The mountain In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: The mountain posted by JButler:I forgot to look at the mountain since this morning, Tina and Joy! But there has been such a great amount of activity I suspect you are seeing the results of steam escaping the dome. I don't know that for a fact, however. It's been pretty busy lately. Anybody care to offer their observations on today's activities? -- posted by jerrib » jerrib - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The mountain In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The mountain posted by jerrib:The mountain looks pretty quiet today with a dusting of snow and clouds covering the upper surface. They said the lava buildup is higher than the Empire State Building and that that much of a buildup usually takes years, not months! The video was pretty. -- posted by Tina_Coruth » jerrib - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The mountain In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The mountain posted by Tina_Coruth:Hi Tina. Thanks for the post. I enjoy hearing about the mountain. Wish I had seen the piece. The mountain has been rebuilding itself since May 18, 1980 when it blew. That's almost 25 years. So it certainly does take a long time to renew itself. Right now the clouds make it look like it is spewing steam again, but I do think it's the clouds at this moment that we see. -- posted by jerrib » jerrib - The ash erupted up to 36,000 feet and is heading northeast, possibly to Yakima - there was a 2.0 earthquake. Not much else is known. A much smaller event than 25 years ago.Be sure to look at the mountain in the morning, but scientists don't think there will be more activity. It is relatively quiet right now. Funny thing about volcanoes - they are unpredictable! -- posted by jerrib » Tina_Coruth - Re: The ash erupted up to In response to The ash erupted up to posted by jerrib:Jerri, I did hear about that eruption and the ash on the news. By that time, my hard drive had failed and I was offline. I'm back today to get the link to put back on my desk top. http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/ms... I'm glad that nothing more happened. -- posted by Tina_Coruth » jerrib - Re: Re: The ash erupted up to In response to Re: The ash erupted up to posted by Tina_Coruth:I haven't looked at the mountain lately, Tina. I will have to take another look tomorrow. It's raining a lot right now, so I'm not sure how the view will be. -- posted by jerrib « Previous 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
