» Joy Butler - Lake Quinalt

Sounds like a lush and lovely place. I would love to take the hiking trails and see the Largest Spruce in the World. I'm sure the lake is beautiful too.

The lake is beautiful, Joy, and the trees are unbelievable if you've never seen an old growth forest. I cringe when folks talk about cutting trees in an old growth forest - you can't begin to imagine how majestic they are.

I'll be publishing an article soon on "walking Washington." State parks alone offer 700 miles of trails to hike. We do have an abundance of forests to enjoy - the rainforest is one of the most awesome.

Maybe you can someday, Traute. If I don't get to go as much as I'd like I find something local to enjoy; takes my mind off what I'd really like to do!

Western Journey, the AAA magazine, has a wonderful article about Quinault, the community,March/April 2004 issue. Do get your hands on it for a look at the area. If you are a AAA member, then be sure you didn't miss it!

We managed to pick a day to stay with record rainfall for Quinault - over 3 inches of rain. Very wet. Beautiful place, though. I'll be writing more later.

As you can say first hand, we do get rain in the Rainforest. But, you where unusually lucky, August is our dryest month, normally.
Well, we did need a little rain and we got it, ALL IN ONE DAY.

It has been a great year, the weather has been warm most of the summer, a couple of day near 100.

September is a good time to see Lake Quinault, usually still fairly dry and warm. This year looks to be near normal. And if you are into fishing, the Salmon start to run in the rivers, soon.

We did pick a rainy weekend, but that's what makes the area so nice. Glad to hear it's not always that way!

Thanks for a nice stay. Jerri
