» wseto - Question from Yvonne

Hello. My name is Yvonne. I came across a number of your articles on WAP and its
future on the internet. You provided a heap of information I found very useful,
but I noticed you didn't talk about how to get a WAP site on the net. What are
the proceedures. I know about the WAP server, but what if I don't have one. Are
there organizations out there that would host one for me. How about the Domian
names. If I currently have one, do I have to register another one for the
wireless world?

Thanks in advance

Yvonne

Thanks Yvonne,

You have a good point. I was thinking about the same thing right before I received your e-mail. Guess what! In my June 1st article, I have done exactly. Please give me feedback! smile

Do you know if anyone has compiled a master list of all wirelessly-enabled Web sites in existence?

Thanks for your message!

Hum... I don't know of a master list. We are talking about the Internet. Things changes everyday. As far as I know, many big company are starting their own WAP sites, e.g. Yahoo!Mobile, MSN Mobile, Barnesand Noble Wireless, MAP Quest, Weather Channel... All these big name companies have WAP site already. Does this help you?

Also, you can always use some WAP search engines. Couple of them I know on top of my head are http://www.webcap.de and http://www.wapjag.com
. Check out my links in within the topic area. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact me again.

Cheers!
Seto

First, don't be afraid to join the mailing list thou. It is not only place to
get help, but also a place exchange ideas. Please~~~~~~ smile join by going to
http://www.camelot.net/wap/ You will receive updates of new articles.

Hum... I am not sure what you mean by using Javascripting. Java Script On
Server side? Yes, you can do that absolutely. You can also use any CGI
programs on Web server to create WML pages. Just like you would use CGI to
generate HTML pages. Keep in mind WML and WMLScript are designed to be light
weight. Encoding of WML pages and Script makes it feasible to transmitt data
over the air. Does this help?

About US wireless pages... In US, a company called Phone.com has dominated the
market. This company has a special lanuage HDML, rather than WML standard.
That is why a lot of the US pages are not compatible with WML. Sprint phones
todays are mostly using Phone.com UP Browser.sad

If you don't mind, can I strip you name out and use this message in the mailing
list. I am sure some people might be interested knowing this also. smile

» wseto - Reply on WML book

Thank you for your message. I am hoping to get more pictures in future for
people to look at. smile You are so right. The next big computing industry will
land on the wireless work. If US wants to keep to be the leader of the tech
world, we have to put some efforts.

Hum... I have not heard of a WML book yet. I wonder what SDK you have used.
I used the Nokia Toolkit and there is a WML reference in pdf format. If you
have the kit, I would suggest reading it. smile Personally I write simple WML
pages. Just simple links like one would do in HTML. Would it help to send you
a sample file?

By the way, I have created a mailing for updating readers of new articles and
WAP discussion. It is an open mailing list at this point. So readers can
actually send message to the list. smile Please take a moment to join at
http://www.camelot.net/wap/ You will receive a message when new articles are
up and other WAP news...

Cheers!

» rabs - WAP Design

im currently confused about how to go about the design structure of making a wml site, provided with an emulator & a browser, using ASP & XML with a database in the background. I've been through the Nokia toolkit but can u still give me some guidelines...
