Art and Artists in the Garden 3: Rosemary RizzoRead the article this discussion is about

» Carol Wallace - Rosemary One thing forgot to mention in the article. Remember about a year ago a lot of us were actively paying it forward? Rosemary didn't post here, but when Christmas was over I found that she had done it with all of her friends! And she also posted out idea in some of her forums. So while she was a quiet participant, she was also active.I was trying my best to put up a photo of her winning tacky yard art but for some reason it refused to appear on the page. It was not only the top winner a couple of years back, but her very first digital camera photo. Some poeple are just plain talented. ;-) -- posted by Carol Wallace » Carol Wallace - Re: well that was one cool looking turtle! In response to message posted by Gardenlady:Have you ever tried mosaics, Susan? I've got some supplies together and am planning on taking a stab at it. I really do like those stairs. I have one semicircular step on our terrace that would look good tiled like that. Rosemary - did you create a plan for each step and work from it? Or did you kind of create as you go? -- posted by Carol Wallace » Flamingal - Re: Re: well that was one cool looking turtle! In response to message posted by CarolWallace:The turtle was just a cute little guy I thought needed a more colorful tropical "shell", so I gave him 'new life'! Actually, he'd be a great 'beginner' project, as you don't need much china or tile, get used to feel of cutting some tile or china and get familiar with adhesive & grout. -- posted by Flamingal » Flamingal - Re: Re: well that was one cool looking turtle! In response to message posted by CarolWallace:A semi-circular step would look fabulous with those lines to follow around! I originally was going to have one color scheme, then as I progressed with the steps, it was really interesting to make each step it's 'own' tone/or theme. I love color and with each step I found that I wanted to incorporate something new...(imagine the look, had I had a 'flight' of stairs to do)...

I know I have to start with a small project - although I have a supply of tiles I have yet to get grout or mortar. But I'm gearing up for it - I think it will be a great winter project, when the garden doesn't need me. I'll have to look at my dining room menagerie - we did a tropical theme and there are a few critters lurking behind things on the floor that might look good with some color. ;-) Your tilework sure did turn the turtle into a handsome fellow. I love color, too. And I really like the tile trim on the porch. It would make an interesting kind of chair rail indoors, too. Do you have a favorite type of mortar? -- posted by Carol Wallace » Flamingal - Re: Re: Re: Re: well that was one cool looking turtle! Carol! I have been so busy..where have the months gone? I have a newly completed "Flamingo Wall Panel" next-to our front doors entrance, painted my bench on porch a tropical turquoise, swing in yard and front doors are tropical hot pink...gives a whole new "look" and was quite the "talk of the town" at our Annual "Flamingo Christmas Gala Party" that also included a "surprise" visit by "Flamingals" from my forum from MI, VA, MI/FL and a local at my doorstep just to "ck-out" my yard & garden art, as well as mosaics and Christmas Decorations!Rosemary "Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. In response to message posted by Flamingal:Well, I sure wish that I lived closer because I still have a box full of absolutely gorgeous tiles that is completely untouched. What I need to do is get my husband's nippers and practice cutting the tiles into triangles and rectangles - then I'd be fine. But so far I've not managed to do that. I'm still working on murals and painting and glazing the pantry. You certainly ARE busy with those mosaics - iun fact I think you've found your calling both as an artist and a teacher. I'm happy for you!! BTW - how close are you to Orlando? I confess my Florida geography is shamefully deficient but I'll be frustrated if I learn that you were close to it when I just got back from spending 5 days there! We want to see photos of your art. In fact it would be fun to do a feature in my e-zine on your mosaics! -- posted by Carol Wallace
