What is the correct fertilizer for my silver lace vine? Also, is it
typical of silver lace to have some yellowing
on the leaves? Please reply. I couldn't find help for silver lace in any
of the garden sites and saw your
beautiful graphic of a silver lace covered arbor. Thanks

Diane, To tell you the truth, I never fertilized my silver lace vine. It's a very tough plant, which is very drought tolerant and not fussy about having good soil -- which is good because in my garden I chopped a hole in the grass and planted it, without even using amendments. And you can see what it grew to.

It can get quite rampant - some people regret ever having planted it for that reason.

Have you had a lot of rain this spring? I'm wondering if the yellowing leaves may come from an overabundance of water? Can you describe the yellowing more thoroughly? Is the whole leaf yellow, or just the veins, or what?

Yes, we had a lot of rain this
spring. The whole leave turns
yellow and you can pick it off
very easily.

Diane, although yellow leaves on a plant can be caused by either a nitrogen or a zinc deficiency, my guess, with this particular vine that seems to thrive in poor soil and drought that the rain is the culprit. Unless the number of yellow leaves starts to exceed new growth I'd just let it dry out. Unless it's in a spot with poor drainage, in which case, preferring dry conditions as it does, it will never be happy unless it is moved or the drainage problem is corrected. Is this vine the only plant you have with this problem?

» acebryant - Silver Lace vine dying

My silver lace vine was doing great until the heat of the summer hit. We planted it against a block wall and even though it gets plenty of water, the leaves turned yellow and fell off. If you scratch it its still green and we'd like to save it even if it means moving it. We live in Beaumont, CA, I think it's a zone 9. Temps have been up to 104. Please help.
