» TCfromKY - Sounds Like... Hi Carol,What a great article, wrote so nicely that it reminds me of Felder's visit last week. Now you've done went and made me start missing him! In the "Acknowledgements" for "Tough Plants for Northern Gardens" Felder gives you special credit and says of you, "The horticulture editor who gave my manuscript the fine-comb treatment. . ." I think you write about gardening in a style similar to Felder's, either this or he writes in your style. Regardless, I just want to say thank you for inspiring me Carol. I love your articles here! -- posted by TCfromKY » Howie - Avacado and Harvest Gold <img src="http://www.suite101.com/files/topics/319/files/BlueEntoloma3.jpg" width="50" height="65" alt="Blue Entoloma, at Lake Matheson, New Zealand, 3,266 bytes" border=”2” align="left"> I remember A and HG. You have betrayed my age. I am sure that Roger will be of aid in the garden this summer. Regain your strength quickly. The garden would miss you. -- posted by Howie » Carol Wallace - Re: Sounds Like... In response to message posted by TCfromKY:Thanks for telling me that. I didn't realize that the book was out until I read your article. In my experience it takes a lot longer than that from manuscript to published edition. Now I'll have to get myself a copy! I must write like Felder because he definitely came first. In fact I've had a copy of his "Passalong Plants" since I began gardening really seriously. Even though I can't grow a lot of those he wrote about, I really enjoyed the book as a good read. -- posted by Carol Wallace » Carol Wallace - Re: Good Suggestions In response to message posted by jerrib:I guess it has to be, Jerri. Otherwise we'd all be walking around in a big fog of gloom. I know my husband always swore that if he ever had a major health problem he didn't think he could handle it - but when he discovered he needed open heart surgery he actually managed both the physical and psychological aspects quite well. But then I'd always told him that he would because he wouldn't be able to stand the alternative doom and gloom. -- posted by Carol Wallace » Carol Wallace - Re: Avacado and Harvest Gold In response to message posted by Howie:You, and I, and many others who are readin this, I'm sure. In fact when wwe moved into this house - over a century old - it was all done in those colors. Really hideous sculptured gold carpet everywhere and wallpaper you woulnd't believe - not only in those colors, but almost psychedelic! The odd thing was that when I started stripping paint and sanding I discovered that the original colors here were very close tot he colors I had chosen for the redecoration. And when I looked out the windows in spring and summer I realized why. There weren't a lot of garden areas, but the shrubs that bloomed were also in the pinks, roses and greens of the interior walls. The gardens were already missing me a bitlast summer, but I try to think of them as Kirk Johnson describes an overgrown garden - romantic. ;-) -- posted by Carol Wallace » TCfromKY - Re: Re: Sounds Like... In response to message posted by CarolWallace:Hello again Carol! Felder went on and on when he was here about how fast the publication of "Tough Plants for Northern Gardens" happened. It'll be one year ago this Valentines Day that he and I met, he was up promoting "Passalong Plants." He told me that he hadn't even been thinking about doing a book on tough plants for regions up here until after we met. Happy Valentines Day to you Carol! Oh, by the way, do you think I should send Felder a Valentines Day card? ;-0 -- posted by TCfromKY
