» CopTop - Home Rules The Cycle of Abuse

A good article but I'd like to point out that not all children who are abused grow up to abuse. Being abused made me aware of children's needs and the awful consequences of abuse.
Abuse in the family is not a genetic issue. Destructive behavior and rules may be passed down through generations but many adults choose to put a stop to this vicious cycle by taking responsibility for their actions and refusing to re-enact what they grew up with.

What you say is true; I can attest to it in my own life. I broke the cycle of abuse in my family of origin and raised two wonderful, non-violent children.

On the other hand, sometimes people who have been abused don't even realize they have choices. I learned this from personal experience, too.

Peace and Love,

Thank you (both of you) for taking the time to comment.

You'll notice that in the article I always qualified the articles main contention with "May" or "Might." I've tried to find a statistic that would tell me what percent of adult abusers were victims of abuse as children but was unable to pin it down to a percent. What I did find, however, was that apparently the majority of these children victims grow up with some terrible social problems (see: http://www.therapistfinder.net/Child-Abu...
