» Dan_Ellsworth - Michigan History!

Judy and I get a magazine called Michigan History, which time after time tells us a lot we didn't know about our state's history. This time I was online, and got the same kind of treat from an article.

In particular, the references to Louis Chevrolet were very interesting.

The three "portholes" on each side were a well-known mark of a Buick in my childhood, to the point of being the subject of jokes -- none, apparently, good enough to remember now.

This is a very informative and enjoyable article.

Hi Dan,

The portholes were an interesting feature. In my research I was surprised not to see a reference to GM’s styling agenda of the period, which was intended to give each separate brand in the line-up an individual mark of distinction. The portholes were Buick’s. Pontiac had a longitudinal wide strip of chrome running down the hood (and, of course, the Indian head). I’ll have to see if I can find out more about this. May be an article in it for me there somewhere, eh?

Dan
