Marie,

I had never heard of salsify either. I found your article interesting and will check with my local nursery.

In response to message posted by Red:

I am a little lost here. I wanted to ask a question about salsify. I hope I am in the right place.

I was intrigued by the seed package in the nursery and bought it, but know little about it. As my garden is 3kms from home I cannot give it daily attention. Most instructions say to plant as soon as the soil can be worked. Here in the Pacific Northwest (at least this year) that could mean any time as the ground has not frozen. Should I plant it at the same time as spinach and mustard greens (now) or like carrots (April). Since it needs constant moisture (normally not a problem here) can I start them in pots at home in case a dry spell hits us or as a root crop will it respond poorly to this. Any suggestions for spacing in an intensive bed as opposed to rows.
