» Vickytoo - Join the military and not fight? Say it ain't so! Drew,Are you really surprised at someone joining the military and not expecting to have to defend our country? If you remember the military (all branches) have been advertising for years that this is a great way to get money for college and demphasizing the fighting bit. But you have to wonder about the IQ of someone who joins without expecting to have to do their duty. BTW, why are you being so hard on CNN? All news organizations are biased, some more than others, but none of them are totally clean. VickyToo -- posted by Vickytoo » AWillis - Re: Join the military and not fight? Say it ain't so! In response to message posted by Vickytoo:Hi Vicky, Actually I am surprised about it. Maybe it's the one thing that I'm always idealistic about, but I do expect people to have at least a modicum of common sense. If they're watching the TV, hopefully they're also paying attention to the news, at the very least the 30 second updates. I don't think it's so much that they don't know what the military does as it is that they don't expect that it applies to them. Even many of the new kids (I suppose I can say "kids" after almost 16 years in) have the attitude that they don't have to do what they're told. The idea that the rules don't apply to them is at the root of both of these attitudes. Regarding CNN, granted, they can say anything they damn well please, thanks to the second amendment. But that doesn't mean that I can't call them on their own arrogance. Remember, they have an agenda, which leans way way WAY to the left. MSNBC is slightly liberal, and Fox tends to be conservative. I've argued before that there is no such thing as an objective journalist. It's simply not possible for any person to set aside their prejudices. We can suppress them, make a show (sometimes intentionally) of trying to change them, but we can't do away with them. Some of us embrace them and use them. CNN doesn't try to hide its contempt for the military. I don't have to hide my contempt for them. Glad you enjoyed the article. Drew -- posted by AWillis
