» Marella - No unsolved mystery here

Even in the late 70's, people involved with the Amityville hoax admitted it.

Personally, I don't believe in ghosts, paranormal phenomenon, etc. Yet I'm willing to keep an open mind provided someone could come up with some evidence, or even anything remotely convincing. As far as I'm concerned, keeping known hoaxes alive only hurts the attempt to prove that some paranormal stuff really does exist. When folks won't drop the obviously non-paranormal events (the Phoenix lights come to mind), people who don't believe, like me, are inclined to say NONE of it can be real.

As soon as the folks who investigate this stuff drop the known-to-be-false cases and delve only into the truly unexplained, perhaps we (including skeptics like me) will find out something we thought couldn't really be.

Hi Marella! It's great to have a skeptic here at unsolved mysteries to even out the playing field. The Lutzes did admit that "parts" of their story were a bit exaggerated but did not go all out and say their entire account was false. In my next article I'll cover the other side of the story, that is, the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the founders of the New England Society for Psychic Research who to this day insist that they experienced first hand paranormal phenomena in the Amityville house. Even though it sounds like a couple of psychic investigators couldn't sway a hard core skeptic like you, check back next month for part two of "The Amityville Hoax?"

Thanks for your comments!

» Marella - I'll certainly check it out

Just because I don't believe these things are real doesn't mean I don't find them intriguing. Perhaps someday someone will come up with proof that there's something paranormal out there. Until then, I'm waiting for that convincing evidence.

I'm familiar with the work of the Warrens. I'm afraid nothing they have to say is likely to convince me.
