Hello, Lynda04,

This was such an interesting article and so well written also.

History is one of my interests also (I have too many!) I lived in the UK in the late '60's and treasure my time there--mostly in Cambridge and London with many jaunts on the side to Scotland and other parts of Britain.

I am subscribing your topic and look forward to
reading other articles, including those in the past.

Best wishes,
Tom Martin

Thanks Tom, it is a subject close to my heart, and I have had to look through many workhouse records when researching my family tree!

Lynda, what a really interesting article about Workhouses. Their food reminds me of my own experiences in a refugee camp! Also interesting about the "loose" women. I learned so much from this article. And I agree, there are many people living in abject poverty today. I have always considered the homeless in America our national shame!

Great topic, Lynda. I'm glad I discovered it, and will subscribe and return. Take care. Renie

Renie,
Thanks very much, you know, that old saying "Charity begins at Home" is one my mother always uses. I know there is terrible poverty all over the world and I always give to those causes when I can, but we in the so called rich countries need to look nearer home sometimes and put our own house in order.
