» Hermes - Type II Diabetes/Personality Changes

Because of the hormonal imbalances caused by Type II diabetes, (and damage to brain cells) I have been told that personality changes - quite severe changes at that - can occur. Is this the case and what is the incidence? The severity? My husband now 62 was diagnosed with Type II diabetes about 11 years ago. He was only diagnosed because he had to go into hospital with something else (a severe illness) and in the course of blood tests his diabetes II was discovered. Therefore, he may have had it for some time before that. His mother had full-blown diabetes and so has one brother.
Other problems quickly set in. My husband developed retinopathy (had laser treatment for that) and a number of other conditions secondary to diabetes set in, high blood pressure, cardiac insufficiency, incipient kidney problems and so on.
Worst of all was that he changed completely as a person. Do you think this is due to the diabetes and its effects?

Many thanks. You may if you wish reply to ararita@hotmail.com

Regards
H
