» Jerseycitysteve - Oscars spell aggravation! Oscars spell aggravation! You can't tell what they'll get along with!I still have just the Oscar, who's 7 inches now, common pleco and a rainbow shark in the tank. I've not added anything else yet cause the tank's only a 40 gal. But when I get the 75, I'm hoping for, then who knows? I did want a school of pictus cats but I think a school of silver dollars or a school of bala sharks might do it. I'm no stickler about geography in the tank as long as the fish don't kill one another. BTW I didn't Acras were so vicious. Great article Cliff! -- posted by Jerseycitysteve » cliff_aliperti - Re: Oscars spell aggravation! In response to message posted by Jerseycitysteve:Thanks again for the compliment! I'd probably go with the Silver Dollars if I were you, the sharks will eventually get too big, unless you're planning another move up in size in another year or two. Good luck! -- posted by cliff_aliperti » gina775 - Advice re: Orinoco habitat for Black Ghost Knife Hi there! We are setting up a new 55 gallon tanks (dimensions 35"w x 18"l 24.5"h). It will be home to a Black Ghost Knife from the Orinoco River in South America. We'd like to keep the tank as true to the Orinoco habitat as possible. Would it be "biospherically" correct to introduce a pair of Angelfish and a trio of Pictus Catfish to be buddies with our bottom-dwelling electric pal-to-be? We also might bend the biosphere rules to include "Lisa," our thai (?) algae-eating girl... she's been eyeing the big new tank across the room like she'd like to move in. Does this seem like a feasible set up to you? Thanks for the wisdom. He seems quite happy in there and has grown to almost 5 inches. He shares space with a Moonlight Gourami, a Corydora of unknown type, a fat little aquatic frog and a zebra snail for algae purposes. I routinely add groups of smaller fish (guppies or neons or smaller platys etc) for color and a change but generally my pictus makes short work of them. Last night I introduced 6 beautiful black leopard platys, I woke up this morning to find 4. hmmm. I have come to accept that carnage will happen and is the natural order of things. At any rate, what this boils down to is that my Pictus is perfectly happy in his 10 gallon kingdom. He is one of my all time favourite fish and is really an awesome fish to keep. I try to keep my tank as natural as possible, I add no chemicals or goo and I allow the chlorine to evaporate from the replacement water before I add it. I have yet to have any problems with my tanks using the "no crud" approach. They have all been plugging away for years and have all been perfectly healthy, clean and clear. I am very strict with myself when it comes to once a week cleaning sessions though, it has to be done. Happy fish-keeping folks, it's not as hard as it looks. =)bloo -- posted by bloobamboo » SuperNib - Re: Re: New Pictus owner In response to Re: Re: New Pictus owner posted by bloobamboo:but how many food do they eat per day? -- posted by SuperNib
