I have a pictus that has been a long standing member of a 10 gallon community tank. He seems quite happy in there and has grown to almost 5 inches. He shares space with a Moonlight Gourami, a Corydora of unknown type, a fat little aquatic frog and a zebra snail for algae purposes. I routinely add groups of smaller fish (guppies or neons or smaller platys etc) for color and a change but generally my pictus makes short work of them. Last night I introduced 6 beautiful black leopard platys, I woke up this morning to find 4. hmmm. I have come to accept that carnage will happen and is the natural order of things. At any rate, what this boils down to is that my Pictus is perfectly happy in his 10 gallon kingdom. He is one of my all time favourite fish and is really an awesome fish to keep. I try to keep my tank as natural as possible, I add no chemicals or goo and I allow the chlorine to evaporate from the replacement water before I add it. I have yet to have any problems with my tanks using the "no crud" approach. They have all been plugging away for years and have all been perfectly healthy, clean and clear. I am very strict with myself when it comes to once a week cleaning sessions though, it has to be done. Happy fish-keeping folks, it's not as hard as it looks. =)bloo
