Hi
I just feed my fish any type of flake, or pellets its basically what I put my hands on first. If your shark is not eating maybe try him on some blood worms, or brine shrimp. If he does not eat that then most likely your shark is ill with some disease. As far as feeders go, I don't believe in using them as live food.First reason being is that feeders are genetically impaired culled gold fish that means there the bottom of the line , people have gone through them and took out the best.Leaving only the garbage, which are weak and sometimes deformed. If you are going to feed live food theres lots to choose from black worms, white worms, brine shrimp and many more.

Your bala's sound like mine. They don't eat off the surface, they are mostly a mid to bottom feeding fish I find. So don't worry, there is nothing wrong with them, and they won't starve to death.

i have a 15 gallon tank and i have a common pleco and 2 common goldfish and a fancy goldfish. i have a air stone and a rubbish filter. i want to keep BALA SHARKS but dont know if they will live in the envioroment i have in my tank i have acknowledged the normal requirements for the fish but cant really afford the stuff at the moment. i am saving up for a filter for my 3foot by 1foot tank by 1foot. i desperately need advice i dont want my fish to suffer. my pleco is bullied by the other fish how can it be avoided?
will the other fish stunt their growth in my 15 gallon tank?
i have heard that pleco can grow up to 1 foot long. i dont have a plant in my tank, can there still be algae? please e mail me and advise me on vmong88@hotmail.com

» lordy7 - BALA SHARKS & PLECOSTOMUS

I have an 180 gallon tank with sand and gravel and live plants. It has mollies, swordtails, platies, guppies, danios, albino corys, glass catfish, colie loaches, a frog, c. algae eaters, upsidedown catfish, clown loaches along with 5, 7 to 8 inch bala sharks and 1 common plecostomus and 2 chocolate albino plecostomus's. My questions,1. the older chocolate plecostomus is removing all the sand and gravel out from under a ceramic tile shelf I made at one end of the tank and the common one is helping part of the time, what gives with this action. 2. Two of the bala sharks have been rubbing up against each other and twisting around with each other for about 2 weeks now. Any suggestions on what to do if anything. thank you JIM

I just bought 3 bala sharks. I was told that they will hang out mid tank, but I noticed that they stay on the bottom and even eat off the bottom. Is this normal?

» ToyotaSupra31192 - Bala Sharks

I just bought 3 Bala Sharks yesterday (October 4, 2003). One of my Bala Sharks is hiding under my plants. When I feed them he would not eat anything. All he did was stayed there under the plants. While my Bala Shark was hiding under the plants, my other 2 Bala Sharks was eating and always stay close to each other, rubbing and touching each other. When the lonely Bala shark came close to the other 2 sharks, one of the two sharks chased the other away. I thought to my self if they where fighting over territory, but later I knew it wasn't that because if they were fighting over territory then how come two of them stayed together and one of them was alone. So I went on the internet and read some information about Bala sharks. Then I found out that they were breeding. When I first found out I was amazed because I thought it would take them a few months before they would start breeding.

If someone has more information abouBalala sharks I would be happy to know. ME-mailil address is ToyotaSupra31192@Comcast.net
Thank you,
Kyle

In response to message posted by ToyotaSupra31192:

Bala Sharks are rarely bred in captivity. They are usually imported directly from South Asia, which is why they can be more expensive than some other fish. Females tend to be plumper during breeding season than males, but otherwise they are difficult to sex visually

i have 3 , they like live brinshrimpmp, but you don'tn want to feed them brine everyday, because its not nutritious , switch every other day with frozen brine. or frozen blood worms
oh and try turning our water temp up, but no higher than 82
