Have you added any new fish to your tank? Because of the behavior change, it could be due to the addition of an aggressive fish or if your tank is overcrowded, fish will start hanging around in one spot.

Sharks are also knows to be more active at night or under a dim light.

On the slim chance, your shark is breeding, it has to be about 5 to 6 inches long. Bala sharks do not breed well in a community tank.

If you are lucky to breed your sharks, there is nothing more beautiful than a tank full of shimmering silver sharks!

To give you a more thorough answer, can you please give me more details? I need to know tank size, other fish in the tank, size of your sharks.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

I just purchased five Bala Sharks about a month ago, they are in a community tank (about thirty gallons) with Swordtails, Red eyed Tetras a Zig Zag eel & a Rice paddy eel. Just today I fed them( & they eat very well) & two of the sharks started rubbing on each other while swimming about the tank. This went on for over fifteen mins with almost no separation besides brief moments when one of the sharks would chase off other intruding sharks. The sharks are barely 3.5 inches long. Is it possible for them to be pairing off for breeding? Should I separate them into a seperate tank? If so, should they be separated from the school? I know no one who has ever cared for these beautiful fish & am at a severe loss as to what to do @ this stage.

Any help would be appreciated.

Justin

Hi Justin

I believe that you could be right about them pairing off."But" I believe that your sharks are a bit to young and small to breed.Mind you at 3.5 inches most of your larger fish will start getting into breeding mode, so this is very possible. These sharks are egg scatterers and if they did breed most likely the eggs would be eaten! If you want to help them along if they are breeding do a 25% water change every week and keep them on a high protien diet! Let me know what happens.
Thanks Doug
