» Amy1966 - Ill Bala!! :( :( !! To whom it may concern...My daughter has 2 bala sharks!! They are still very young. One of the bala sharks has become partially blind, I believe. His fins(we think "he")have become red streaked, as if blood were running into them??! He hangs out in one area of the tank because he looks too nervous to venture out anymore. His eyes have dark coating over them now and he, himself has become darker in color! I got him into the net and had flake food in the net as well. This way he can eat. He can't see food floating near him anylonger so he'll feel the food close to his mouth in the net and eat that way. This is extremely sad!!! WHAT'S GOING ON?????!!!! Please help!! Thanyou!!, Samantha Huffer(my daughter-her fish) and Amy Woollard the(very attached to the balas!!)mom. -- posted by Amy1966

Hi -- posted by Douglas DuHamel » sparkielee - Blind Bala Shark I don't know if this message would ease your fears about you Bala shark being able to eat, but I have a blind fish myself. One of my goldfish had its eyes "torn out" by one of its tankmates so I put it in a tank by itself. I saw it with its mouth on the bottom of the tank and its body at an angle searching for food. This was back in October, and that fish is still with me. Even though I've taught my goldfish to "kiss" my fingers & eat from my hand, I put sinking fish food on the bottom of the tank where the blind fish could find it. -- posted by sparkielee » Sophie88 - unhappy gold fish *< My gold fish isn't too good, "she" has been very highly strung recently. I've also noticed her spiralling to the bottom of the tank and swimming backwards. She tries to jump out of the water too. We recently moved her and my other goldfish from a 30ltr tank into a 5ft tank with some of our tropical fish. mum believes shes constipated or shes damaged her swim bladder does any body else have any ideas?-- posted by Sophie88 » biogardener - Goldfish I wouldn't put a goldfish with tropical fish. They don't come from the same part of the world. Tropical fish water gets heated, and goldfish water isn't. They also eat different food. Another thing. The goldfish are carp and when they get big enough, they will eat the smaller fish even when they have enough other food. Once they have tasted a fresh fish, you won't be able even to place little goldfish with them.I would keep them separate from tropical fish. -- posted by biogardener » Kelly326 - My bala is swimming with a big mouth ok i'm not understanding why its swimming around my tank acting normal and looking normal but with his mouith wide open 24 hours a day..... I've had my bala about 2 weeks and about 4 days agao it started with this mouth thing. Its about 4 inches long and all the levels in my tank are good i changed 25% of the water but it didnt help what do i do???/ is it hungry???? is it sick???? what???-- posted by Kelly326 » uawildcat_96 - bala sharks with mouth open I'm having the same problem with one of my bala's and I have no idea what's causing it. Fish seems to be healthy, I've had it for a couple of months and it's about 4" long, but it's mouth is wide open 24hrs a day... it never closes! It seems to be eating ok, but it's unnerving to look at and can't be good! Anyone know what this is?-- posted by uawildcat_96 » schebs4 - sick bala We have a bala that seems to have the same symptoms as Amy's. The only other thing he is doing is when he stops swimming he tends to tip downwards. Then he'll start swimming again. We have treated the water with Furan-2 and now with a fungal treatment. We have the bala out of the tank for now because the crayfish was trying to eat him. Does anyone have any other suggestions? He also will go belly up if he gets too far to the side. It's like he can't keep himself upright. It is very sad.-- posted by schebs4
