» Dantessa - Very cool!

Very cool! I set up a small biotope myself some months ago from the lake on which I live. I included some asian clams (pests, like zebra mussels, but oh-so-cute) and a couple viviparidae snails. The lake water provided lots of "water fleas" too. I had a lot of fun decorating it with sand and stones and beach glass, all from the lake shore. I spent hours wading in my backyard. It's been very interesting maintaining it, but in the end only the asian clams have survived. The viviparidae are fairly fragile as is (they exist pretty much to be eaten!) and I don't exactly know what happens to them during the winter freeze. Obviously I couldn't mimic this with my biotope, because if I tried, the entire thing would turn into an ice cube (instead of just a surface freeze as is the case with the lake).
