Hi Irene,
What an entertaining and informative article. I didn't know about dunking for money. As you probably know, here in the US, we dunk for apples. Now I find out that in Ireland you go after your apples on a string. Sounds like Halloween is a great time in Ireland. :-)

This brings back memories of my childhood when we dunked for apples in a tub of water. I too, like Tina, had never heard of the money in water hing. This sounds like an interesting tradition. And I can almost smell that bread baking right now, Irene.

» Red - apple bobbing...

Yes, I also bobbed for apples in a tub of water. It was lots of fun and we always had an apple bobbing contest at school. Of course the big boys always won. It was a one room school with 8 grades. I was in grade one.

Interesting article. I read it when it first came out and decided to put it "In the Spotlight," in the Travel Center this week. I even found a photo of an Irish Castle to draw attention to it. Congratulations!

Thanks Irene for this look at Hallowe'en Irish Style. I enjoyed my visit.

Yep, the holiday can definitely be fun, especially for the kids. I think I can smell that bread too. Can't wait to get home and have some. It tastes so good.

» Irene Taylor - Happy Halloween

Hi Irene,

What a wonderful article about Halloween in Ireland! I was interested to read about many of those traditions and to see how some of ours can be traced back to Irish ancestors.

I, too, was surprised to read about bobbing for money. I wish I'd known that one when I was teaching - the kids would have LOVED it!!

Have a Happy Halloween. We'll be spending Oct. 31 in Birmingham, Alabama this year, so maybe we'll also get to see some spooky "American South" traditions.

Great article!

Irene
