Truthfully no place in the world is safe anymore. Yesterday was the 4th anniversary of 911 and if Huricane Katrina has showed us anything it’s that our own country still isn’t prepared for the worse. I personally feel if something is going to happen it’s going to happen whether here in the US or in another part of the world. It’s interesting that you mention the London bombing because I read a story on MSN about two twin teenagers who were on the double decker bus. They both survived with a few slight burns and scraps. The man sitting right next to them died in the explosion. The reason I mention this is because of what I stated before – there but for the grace of God go I. But only you know if your own child would be able to handle an emergency situation. My daughter is 13 and I trust her judgment. She’s pretty quick witted so I didn’t worry on that front when she went to Australia this year. 2) I am a single mom of 3 so this would be difficult. Also how much is the down payment and when do you have to have it? I think it was $1000 a month or two after your child is selected but they tell you at the meeting. Fundraising can be done but it takes some start up cash and lots of hard work. If you have family and friends in offices or large factories they might lend a hand your child a with funding raising sales. You can learn more at http://www.studentambassadors.org/. Also when you go to the informational meeting you’ll learn more. I also had never heard of them but after my daughter signed up I found out that, during our fundraising sale, my neighbor down the street went to Russia when she was a teenager and loved it. She made sure to give my daughter some ‘extra’ money for the trip and reassurance that she’ll have a great time, which was sweet. Also some waitresses mentioned that their daughters, nephews, etc. had gone when they overheard us talking so they aren’t as obsolete as you think. cherry_girl97 – Does anyone know the cost for this particular trip? Has anyone ever gone on this particular trip? Also does anyone know any good ways to start fundraising in a small community, there are only about 1,300 people in the town I live in and I don't think it will be very easy to do around here? The cost various by location I think but it’s usually around $5000-6000. My daughter went to the Australia trip this year and had a great time. As for fund raising idea check out http://www.fundraisingweb.org/ and http://www.fundraiser.net/. If you have family and friends in other areas you could also ask if they would be kind enough to help you with fundraising since you are in such a small area – every little bit will help. Howie1970 – And as dadofthree mentioned the deposits are non-refundable except in case of emergency (and emergency is illness, injury, death, etc. and not “Oops I didn’t check with me ex-wife first before forking over cash) so it’s best to make sure you cement your travel plans with ex’s (or other guardians) BEFORE deciding to be a part of the program. They do make it quite clear that it’s non-refundable. I've e-mailed them to their general information page and told them upfront that I find the lack of pricing information indicative of high-pressure sales in the past and I wanted to know the costs involved before signing up for any session. I also said that their response to my request for information would determine my response to their invitation. However, I must say the "ick" factor is tilting me away from them. -- posted by xteressax » Courage23 - Discouraged I just got a letter for the first time inviting me to a 2006 France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy trip and I really want to go. I haven't told my parents yet because I wanted to research first. While the program seems legit (except for the lack of cost and location info.) I know for a fact that my parents can't afford it now that my sister is in college. Could anyone tell me the average cost range, how difficult it is to actually get into the program, and any suggestions on how to pay without heavily inconveniencing my parents? The next step is the interview, which is coming up in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kinds of questions are asked by the interviewer.
