Yes, you are supposed to wear the "uniform" (polos and khakis) on the plane rides. It's for your safety - so you can easily be spotted by your delegation leaders and your peers and are not left behind at the airport. smile

I just got accepted into the program after my interview and got my big folder of stuff. I'll be going to the South Pacific for the Sports Ambassadors Academy. If anyone is wondering about what it is, you basically get to do a lot of the sightseeing stuff of a student ambassador, but with a sports focus. For example, you get to tour various top-notch sports facilities there and learn some of the popular sports.

Anyone been on it before?

Congrats on being accepted! I have not been on a sports ambassador trip before, but it sounds really exciting. From what I hear, sixteen countries are represented, fifteen European countries and the USA. 3,000 students participate, 1,500 of whom are American. During the morning, you train. During the afternoon, you compete. And during the night, you sightsee. You should have a great time! What sport are you participating in? Where are you traveling to? Let us know all about it when you get back. Do you have your dates yet?

Nope, no dates.

I play soccer, basketball, and field hockey.

In the academy program, however, you don't play any other teams. It's more of a program looking into what sports are like in Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand. I know you do a lot of high adventure stuff-- like ropes courses and rock climbing. I'm not really sure what else yet. You don't have any homestays, I think, but at the end you get to stay at a village in Fiji along with some Fijian students.

We just had our interview last weekend, so no dates yet. There's only 6 people in our delegation so far, so we'll probably have to combine with another group-- which should be fun!

By the way, thanks for being on here. I was worried after reading some of the bad press on p2p, but after reading testimonies and stories from those who actually have been on the trip, it sounds great! =D

That sounds like fun! I've been to Australia and New Zealand, and they are so beautiful! I was there in 2003. You may have to combine with another delegation, but the delegation is just starting to get filled. You'll be surprised how quickly they fill up. I love People to People. I have been posting on here for six months now because I love the program and love meeting new ambassadors. It will be great, I promise. I have been on seven trips, and I love them all. They get better and better each year.

I know, I can't wait!

I think we'll have our first meeting next weekend, or something like that.

EXCITING!

It seems we're a little behind compared to other groups... On the website, it says most groups receive their dates by February 1st. Is this normal?

People to People has two sets of meetings. The first set is in the fall in the months of September, October, and November. Those delegations get their dates on February 1st. The second set of meetings are in January and February. I am not sure when those delegations, like yours, get their dates. They cannot give out dates until delegations are filled because they have to how many airline tickets to book, and they have to make sure that airlines have enough seats. You should find out some more information about it at the first or second delegation meeting.
