I think the reason why there were so many scenes missing was because...well tell me, would you sit in a cinema for about five hours with no breaks.

I think PJ only kept the important scenes in the film so people who haven't read the books will understand it easier. The Extended DVDs are mainly for fans of the books.

I have to wait until November for the EE DVD of RotK.

Also I agree that Shelobs cave could have been a bit darker as well as the Mines of Moria. Notice in the scene with balins tomb a ray of sunlight shines on the tomb? Aren't they supposed to be deep under ground? Why didn't they look to see where the light was coming from and crawl out to safety?

Oh well, it's still one of the best films I've ever seen.smile
