» mggraves - Silmarillion

I've read the S. several times but missed the part about the eagles being inhabilted by Maiar spirits, thanks, it makes more sense that way. I've always thought that given the might aimed against him that Frodo could not have escaped the chase to Rivendell. Oh, well, as MST 3000 says I should breathe and just relax. I think also think it is really cool that the existence is created as a song and the song they are singing is really the chronology of the world though only Iluvatar knows this at first. Lots of mythologies tell of the creation of the world by speaking words and mythic beings have power from saying spells. Marilyn

It doesn't appear in the Silmarillion, but in the Annals of Aman, HoME X: "Manwe however sent Maia spirits in Eagle form to dwell near Thangorodrim and keep watch on all that Melkor did and assist the Noldor in extreme cases". However, in Myths Transformed, Tolkien argued against the idea of eagles even having a fea.
