» Michael_Martinez - Re: Gandalf's knowledge of Saruman's loyalties

In response to message posted by Eldanuumea:

Someone has questioned elements of my stories in which Gandalf and Aragorn notice Saruman's agents in Eriador and worry over whether he is seeking the Ring or the heir. Am I mistaken to use the timeline as a basis for this instead of the actual Fellowship version, which is unclear? I am really trying to keep my stories accurate.

I can only share an opinion with you. I cannot correct or confirm your choices.

I believe that Gandalf and Aragorn were indeed aware that someone was watching the Shire (there are a few indications that they were aware of the spies), but they did not appear to understand that Saruman was behind all the activity.
