I would not choose to be immortal after reading this excellent article, Arwen's choice to be mortal is understandable, even without Aragorn to be there for her, which of course he is. I see something of why Elves can die of grief (or sorrow and regret), and do not envy them the uncertainy of what becomes of them after the end of the world. Also, a question, if elves are meant to dwell on earth, why do those that remain have to fade? Should they not be able to continue here? Are some of the younger elves still here, but our mortal eyes do not see them for what they are? Can they come back from where ever it is they sail to?
