Party Foods
This archived discussion is "read only".
» max_read - As you hinted, any meal can have a party built around it . . . Lynda Trent, the romance writer, researched a period romance and needed to taste food from a few centuries ago. She got the recipes from my library and invited my ex-wife and I over to share the dinner with her husband, to measure all of our reactions to such things as "lemon white."We reciprocated with a modern "Symphony of Tastes." It was a meal designed to highlight a spice that was be used from salad to dessert and in a variety of wines, which were also served. It was only when the dessert was served that the spice was identified, and then it was a taste which was associated with the apricots we served, but wasn't named, although our guests had heard of it: Aspic. The "parties" though small, were a lot of fun as we tried different things and could tell each other what we liked and didn't like about foods which were both exotic and routine. -- posted by max_read » cajunmaumau - Some suggestions please. I am planning a 1960's party with some friends. Costumes , music, and decorations are not a problem, however the food for this event is somewhat of a challenge. I know this is an era of more health conscience eating, but I really would like to include meat without getting totally out of character. A friend had suggested grilled cheese sandwiches and those now famous brownies. Although possibly proper to period, I'm not feeling that brave. Any other suggestions-- posted by cajunmaumau
