» Dantessa - Re: Re: Re: Re: My Phoebe LOL, thanks! This weekend Phoebe and I did some arts & crafts together. I was mixing potpourri from flowers I'd dried and added a few drops of honeysuckle fragrance to enhance their scent. Well, somehow or another, Phoebe stuck her head into the bag in which I was mixing it all and now her fur smells just like honeysuckle--been going strong all weekend, so methinks it'll be a while before she cleans it off completely. By the way the oil isn't toxic so it won't harm her.Anyway she never smelled bad before (just smelled like a kitten!) but now she's very nicely perfumed. My mother thinks she's a cosmopolitan kitty; she has an affinity for yanking my sterling silver jewelry & my lingerie around the room, and now with the perfume incident my mom says she's getting ready to take on the world. As for birds...I've always wished I could have one, preferably something like an African grey parrot...but methinks the bird would develop a nervous tick after a while of my 7 cats hanging on the cage pounding to get in!! The vet I use has a beautiful African grey named "Max" who sits in one of the exam rooms. When I checked Phoebe in for her spaying Max was sitting there saying "Hello" very loudly to get our attention every time we turned our backs on him to work on Phoebe. It was quite amusing because he seemed to mimic various types of voices. He had a very deep "Hello" like the male vet and a very high pitched "Hello" like the female nurse. He took a particular liking to my sister and whenever she'd take her eyes off him (literally) he'd whistle and holler to get her attention. Very amusing. Anyway, I just adore all kinds of animals & birds & stuff. I'm very fortunate that my backyard's turned into a bit of a wild kingdom, especially since we started putting out dry food for the cats during the day. We have a resident opossum who comes out at night to nibble, and I've caught him sitting side by side with one of my cats on a chair, like they were having a good chat. (My cats wouldn't kill a bug if they had the opportunity, they are lazy and overfed! ;-) We also have little racoons that hang on the screen outside my bedroom window and peer in (a bit disconcerting, but their faces are awfully cute). We have ravens that are surprisingly tame, and will walk right up and eat food we leave by our feet. We also have the fattest and most tame squirrels I've ever seen, who'll eat side by side from food dishes with my cats, and will come right up to me when I sit on the porch. We live on a lake, so we have a family of 4 or 5 muscrats who gladly scarf up our over-ripe fruit, and clamber about on our porch sometimes when they're bored. For an animal lover like me it's great to have an extended family of critters -- posted by Dantessa
