» phoehne - TV after 9-11 Hollywood, both TV and movies, needed to, and have taken a look at their position in light of the events of 9-11. Changes have been made, probably more will be.It has been nearly a month. A very short time if you live in New York or Washington, if you knew someone who died or was injured, if yor life was directly affected. But for those of us in Mid-America, as horrified as we were, and are, life goes on. If the economy is to survive these events we MUST go back to business (almost) as usual. Perhaps a farm community looks at life a bit differently than does an urban dweller. Here, crops must be harvested whether or not there is continued terrorism, war or comedy on TV. It becomes quite basic - if the farmer doesn't harvest his crops, his family doesn't eat. If he has no crop to sell, the nation doesn't eat. Life will go on and for some of us that will include laughing again. We may even make jokes about someone others are proclaiming to be off limits. Bush may be playing a different role these days than he was a month ago, but he is still the same man. He did not suddenly become more intelligent, more caring, more astute. We may be less inclined to make jokes about him but it because we don't need to give other countries or groups any more ammunition to use against us, not because we as Americans do not have the freedom to make a joke about our president. If we no longer have the right to criticize, joke, or express opinions than the terrorists have succeeded. We will only overcome this attcak if we do not let them take away our freedoms. And that includes the right to occasionally be politically incorrect and in bad taste. Sorry for going on so long but I think it is an imporant subject. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. -- posted by phoehne » Steve_Hat - Re: TV after 9-11 In response to message posted by phoehne:Thank you for your wonderful insight pheohne and please don't apologize for going on too long. The great thing about these discussion forums is that we can say as much or as little as we want. Now, that's what I call freedom. As for me, I live in Canada but I can argue that I'm part American. My father is American and my relatives live in New York City. Everybody I know is all right but still I'm touched deeply by the events of Sept. 11th. New York City has always been like a second home to me. -- posted by Steve_Hat
