You might want to try downloading the Google Toolbar. It has a pop-up blocker, and many other features. You can find it and download it at http://toolbar.google.com/.

I was going to suggest the Google Toolbar too. I've been using it for several months. It is free and the best pop up blocker I have tried. It works great with IExplorer too. I use dial up and my connection is fine. Plus, you can set it to allow pop ups on sites where you take online quizes and etc. It will allow pop ups from whichever domains you choose.

Pop up ad blockers are free but you need to learn how to a just them to work with your Internet connection all blockers will interfere with your connection to some degree. Getting a new tool bar is not going to help most of them encourage ads! Most likely you have already got some spyware on your computer that is drawing the ads. what you need to do is to get rid of the spyware first a good free one of those is at:
