I am looking for resources that discuss the positive and negative effects of introducing young (6 and under) children to computer technology. When, how, how much? I have a 5 year old grandson - and it appears to be time to get him a computer due to his interest and use of ours, but I am concerned about the effects on behavior, physical stress (carpel tunnel, posture, etc.), social skills and more.-- posted by larryad

Give me a day or two and I will see if I can locate some resources for you.
From my own personal experience I've found that the computer has increased my four year old's vocabulary and math skills.

I did come across this interesting article that you might be interested in. It's at Social Interaction and the Computer.Here's another one at Technology and Young Children:What Parents Should Know.
I found a book at Barnes and Noble called Look Inside A Computer. It's written for kids ages 5 - 8. You might have to help him read it but it might be beneficial.
That's all I could find in a quick search. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything else.

HiI attend the Universtiy of Waterloo in Canada and I am currently doing a research paper in general tems on the effects technology is having among youth today. I am looking for other studies on this and pretty much anything else offical that relates. If anyone out there could give me some links on this topic that would be great and very helpful. In response to message posted by LisaJamo:Hi Lisa I cannot recall exactly when but I remember Time magazine printing a huge article on how technology is affecting our children several years ago. You might be able to find something in their archives on their website.
I know that I have some published studies on the web but it's been a while. I would also recommend the Academy of American Pediatrics. They might have something in their archives as well.
