Hi
I volunteer as a computer teacher at my daughters school. I really have been having a hrad time coming up with creative ideas to teach using MS Word and typing. We have a limited budget so buying new software is probably not an option any ideas?

I actually have a really great suggestion for you. My friend Georgie has a fabulous program that is not at all expensive but well worth about 30 times what she charges. Some of her tutorials are even free. You can find Georgie's work at Nail It Now. Check out her site and see what you can use there.

Other than that, I would have to say you'll have to make your own curriculum. I have basic Word directions in some of the older articles but as for a typing tutor Georgie's is the only one we've used that I really like.

You could start with teaching where each letter is and doing small exercises like type "a" 10 times, then do "b" and then alternate "a b a b" 10 times. Do so many letters per day and then the following week do short sentences. Check some of the Dick & Jane type books out from library and have the kids type those sentences. Do that for a week or so and then start timing them.

We do have a program called Jump Start typing that my kids have used and it has timed typing activities on it. It wasn't very expensive so that's a possibility too. Perhaps you could send round a note and see if parents would be willing to donate $1 or $2 to buy a program. Still though, I don't think you could find one that will teach better than Georgie's. smile

Good luck!
