But a better alternative is a ZIP drive which holds 100 MB per disk. <img src="http://www.suite101.com/userfiles/79/rhubarb.gif" alt="rheum" align=left> -- posted by Carol Wallace » Gay_Klok - I have a zip drive, Carol but must buy some more disks. It is s I have a zip drive, Carol but must buy some more disks. It is so easy to leave them on the hard drive when you want to get a photo in a hurry. A storm with gusts Being without a computer is like being lost. A storm with gusts up to 115 mph went through our area and we have been without power since 1:30 am Monday. The estimate is that we will get it back in another week. After all the trees are removed from the roads and power lines and the power poles replaced. This contact is being made at the library which does have power.Gay, is your Trumpet Creeper invasive? My daughter-in-law just had a Pergola built in her garden but is shying away from the plant as being much too vigorous. -- posted by Howie » Gay_Klok - Howard, Yes it is pretty invasive but as the old barn is one Howard,Yes it is pretty invasive but as the old barn is one that was built before the turn of the century and is two stories high, it can go for its life. On the other side I have planted Rosa "Kifsgate" and that IS invasive. <img src="http://www.suite101.com/userfiles/2779/Su101pea.jpg"align=left>Come for a stroll in my gardens -- posted by Gay_Klok » Tim_Dutton - We take lots of photos, and on rare occasions do a guided tour o We take lots of photos, and on rare occasions do a guided tour of the garden on video. We have one photo album just for garden photos, and it often gets more photos than the non-garden album!A bit of an anniversary has passed, it was 8 years ago yesterday that our offer on this property was accepted. Looking back at my earliest photos, it has changed a LOT in the 8 years. Tim Dutton -- posted by Tim_Dutton » Gay_Klok - Tim, sorry the break in answering you. Weekend - down at the fa Tim, sorry the break in answering you. Weekend - down at the farm!It is delightful when you realise how the garden has matured from the time when you opened it for a garden club, thinking it was great and then realising it was very immature, but NOW - I think that a garden's best time [when built from scratch] seems to be from 15 - 30 years. At around 30 the original garden creators are either getting too old, sell the property or are dead. We have 4 years to go to reach the 15 year old garden as for the other age - hmm! <img src="http://www.suite101.com/userfiles/2779/Su101pea.jpg"align=left>Come for a stroll in my gardens -- posted by Gay_Klok » LyndaH - I know what you mean about taking so many garden photos. I take I know what you mean about taking so many garden photos. I take at least one film a month of my flowers, usually two. It's getting ridiculous, but I just have to try that extra snap! I love taking pictures of flowers, but I would desperately like a macro lens for the camera - just think what I could create then! When you only have a small garden like mine, and with the fence between us and neighbours on both sides being very low, you can't take a decent shot without catching their ugly yards (usually with washing on washing lines... yeeech!) So I concentrate on single blooms... lots and lots and lots and lots of them lol!-- posted by LyndaH » Gay_Klok - lynda, I have had famous English photographers taking shots i lynda,I have had famous English photographers taking shots in the Town Garden [Jeremy Harpur was one] and they like to take photos either very early morning, late afternoon or best of all, when there is a storm brewing. And get on top of the roof to take them when the garden is small. Perhaps you had better do a little roof climbing, would that get rid of the washing?! I think garden photography is the hardest of all - the strong sun takes all the colour out and when there is no sun at all, it can become wishy-washy. I suppose that is why they like that sort of electric storm light Garden <img src="http://www.suite101.com/userfiles/2779/Wpeawee.jpg"align=left>Come for a stroll in my gardens -- posted by Gay_Klok » LyndaH - Great minds think alike! I crawled up on the roof last year, an Great minds think alike! I crawled up on the roof last year, and I just couldn't believe how fantastic everything looked from up there! My garden is split into three pretty equal strips, a otager and watergarden, a lawn, and a flower bed/gravel path bit. It means I can take three different shots, but the scale means I still get the damn neighbours in!!!And as for the storm brewing idea, I would stand by that 100 percent! I try to always take photos late in the day, but just before a storm it is fantastic - the greens stand out so much, and the colours are so much more intense. I love English garden photography, their light is so much nicer than ours it seems - in New Zealand summers it is so harsh (And in Australian summers as well, obviously!) This week I used a whole film taking photos of a blue scilla (sp?), single shots of tulips, the Magnolia iolanthe... ooooh... The best thing is next week, there will be new flowers to photograph!!! (Can you see how addicted I am?) -- posted by LyndaH » Gay_Klok - Lynda, Never get a digital camera, the only thing to hold you ba Lynda, Never get a digital camera, the only thing to hold you back is the batteries which this camera is very heavy on. If you don't like it when seeing it on a small screen just throw it out!The camellias have been fantastic this year, very large heads and it is Rhododendron time coming up. I will be putting so many photos with my next article, I will be most unpopular! <img src="http://www.suite101.com/userfiles/2779/Azhead.jpg"align=left>Come for a stroll in my gardens -- posted by Gay_Klok « Previous 1 2 3 4 5 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
