I love perfumed plants. Roses grow well here in Hobart. I am not sure but I think Gay's mysterious plant is a Lobelia, but I don't know the botanical name, Micky -- posted by mickyr » Cottage_Garden - Micky, are you guessing the blue one or the tree thing? :) Micky, are you guessing the blue one or the tree thing?Barbara Martin -- posted by Cottage_Garden » Howie - Gay, I always admire your photos. What variety of Eunonymous wa Gay, I always admire your photos. What variety of Eunonymous was it in your picture collection? Mine have whimpy fruit in comparison.Sorry I was not around to participate in the great Grackle debate. We were on holidays. You do not want to be subject to a Grackle's call. It puts a Crow's or Jay's to shame. They greet the morning with the most grating, raucous shriek. No one could call it singing. The street birds in Sydney were Myna's, oddly enough they are relatives of Starlings. The ones I encountered did not talk with Aussie accents. -- posted by Howie » Cottage_Garden - Micky -- your guess is better than mine! But we'll have to wait Micky -- your guess is better than mine! She'll have to tell you about the euonymous, I'm afraid....Does that mean the mynas sound better or worse? Barbara Martin -- posted by Cottage_Garden » Cottage_Garden - Oh golly! I never studied ornithology and as it turns out I seem to have a tin ear.... Howie, is there a pseudo phonetic description for myna vs grackle or whatever sounds in the bird world? Barbara Martin -- posted by Cottage_Garden » Gay_Klok - Hello Howard, I have been up 36 hours, no exaggeration! but I wo Hello Howard, I have been up 36 hours, no exaggeration! but I would like to answer your question. The photograph of the seeds of the euonymus is of a seedling from an old E. oxyphyllus which already has better [bigger] seeds than its parent. It is in a sunnier position. E. oxyphyllus comes from Korea and Japan, about 8ft tall shrub. I believe there are more than 170 species of the plant. E. europaes "Red Cascade" is one that I would like to get for Middleton garden, not only does it have good Auumn colour but the seeds are bigger red-orange beauties. <img src="http://www.suite101.com/userfiles/2779/Su101pea.jpg"align=left>Come for a stroll in my gardens -- posted by Gay_Klok » Cottage_Garden - Micky -- I think you were right!!! What an interesting plant p Micky -- I think you were right!!! What an interesting plant palette you must have -- meconopsis and now this .... a tree formed lobelia.... I am shaking my head having planted the little blue flowered annual lobelia into a pot or two this week... and double checked on the survival so far of the herbaceous red and blue flowered lobelias in the ditch garden... all without having to look UP.At least I usually recognize roses when I see them. Unless of course Gay has yet another mystifying puzzle up her sleeve!
