» Larw1953 - Drawing a card a day

Is this a type of "reading". It has been so on the mark for me - it is almost scary! I am new to this - truly a beginner - but have been drawn to it for a long time. I have been thinking about asking for a reading, but things are happening with me that make me hesitate. I have been dreaming, vivid, almost reality type dreams - many are disturbing - but I am able to control and stop dreams that become too hard to bear. It's just that I used to dream like this a long time ago and then it seemed that I just quit dreaming - now it started again. It is less scary now - when I feel that the dream realm is crossing over to the existing realm I just think - stop! or go away!. I feel, and the cards are confirming that things are changing in a big way, not just the obvious course of my life, but also something deeper, more spiritual. It almost feels to me like I need to do the reading myself, but I'm not ready?
Does all this sound weird, or is this a natural process?

Linda

In response to message posted by Larw1953:

actually drawing a card a day you are doing a reading for yourself. They are very simple readings but its the best way for all those who are completely new to the tarot to start. As far as doing spreads for yourself dont rush it, we will get to that in later lessons.

As far as the dreams go, Ive done a lot of study in that area as well. I like you can control what I dream. I dont dream much anymore that I remember out of choice. But, In studing dreams I found that there are african tribes that teach their children how to control their dreams. The practice was picked up by many pshycotherapist later on. There are some very good books out there on the subject of dreams.

Let me suggest to you that if your dreams seem to be decending into reality let them do so. It could be one of two things. Either you have clearly connected to your subconsious or true self and it is therefore able to clearly tell you what you need to know without using symbolism or you are dream walking. Dream walking is a form of astral projection that happens while we dream. Basicly your mind and spirit go visit someone you are concerned about or look in on the possiblity of what might be really going on. Just go with it. If at any point in time you feel as though it is more than you can handle just use your usual methods of stoping the dream and say a thank you to the divine for what you did learn.

Is the reading only for that day or could it also represent past or future? They all seem to be the present - but I was wondering if I should look for future or past. I also lean towards the more positive aspects of the card, not ignoring the negative, but usually not feeling that it is applicable. Sometimes I see a caution to be careful, but that is all. Am I in denial? I'm not prone to seeing the negative - could this cloud my reading? Also are the cards only for me? For instance, tonight I drew the Knight of Swords - for me I felt it was more of a caution - don't over do it - the call to action has already happened (from "Tarot as a way of Life")- or does this card represent my husband? (it could very easily on some days!).

So, if during this dreaming I get the feeling of being "visited", perhaps it is me who is "visiting"? That would explain why I feel a sense of another environment that is not my bedroom. It's not always a friendly feeling, but not threatening, I feel wary - not sure if I am ready or prepared for these "visits".

Maybe I should ask for a reading about these dreams?

The daily readings are typically seen as present readings. Now if you think about a past event and draw a card or an event that is happening in the future and draw a card then it will reflect that. As far as the card being for your husband that all depends. Are you thinking about what the card will mean for you or what the card will mean for the both of you? Or were you just thinking about him in general when you pulled the card? If he entered your mind in any form as you were pulling the card it could easily represent him or even both of you.

As far as the dream goes, If you had the feeling you were not in your own personal envorment then you were the one doing the visiting. Its ok to be leary and cautious when exploring that kind traveling. I dont know that a reading on the subject would help. But a dream journal certainly would. I would also suggest that you try just staying in the dream for a few minutes at a time. Just kind of feel out the enviorment a bit. When you have enough of a feel that you think you would reconginze it if you came back to it then return. The next time you dream of that place explore a little further out. Just keep working slowly until you feel comfortable talking to anyone who might be there. One Trick that africans use in dreams they control is to ask anyone who might be an enemy or you feel should be approached with caution for a gift. Once asked for a gift they either have to give you one or leave the area. If they leave then you know you do not want to interact with them at least at this time. If they give you a gift you know you can call upon them to help you anytime you come into contact with someone not so friendly. That trick also works for nightmares in children if you can teach the child to realize they are asleep and dreaming while still in the dream.

The beauty of doing this techneque with a dream journal is that you can keep a record of your own growth and developement. Another idea to tie it into the tarot is when every you feel comfortable see yourself showing the card you drew for the day to whomever is there. See what reaction you get from it. Perhaps they have new insite on the card for you. Perhaps they will have no reaction at all. But, if all of this started when you started pulling a card a day then its a good bet that whoever is there will have plenty to say.

Thank you for the suggesstions about the dreams - I will try the journal - if I can wake myself up enough to write some notes without waking too much. I like the idea of asking for a gift and also showing the card I drew that day - those are great suggestions. I am feeling much more comfortable about these dreams now and I am sure, will sleep better tonight.

I am looking forward to doing a spread, but I am afraid it will take me hours to interrpret as I will have to look up each card, and then try to look at the whole picture to see what it is saying to me. Tonight I drew "The Star" - a good sign. I is one of my favorite cards - now I know why.

Im glad I could help. I promise though doing a spread isnt as hard as you think. When I was first staring out to compensate for feeling like I needed the books to read the cards I would write cliff notes of my favorite meanings. Just short keyword type meanings. And keep the piece of paper handy while I was doing the reading. It saved time and forced me to think about the cards without the book.

The star is one of my favorite cards as well. You cant beat something that calls for the use of your intution and the connection to the divine.
