» 4naturalfamily - Choosing Between Traditional And Gestational Surrogacy

I noticed one article here that says in effect that "choosing between traditional and gestational surrogacy" is "one of the first decisions a surrogate mother has to make".

I disagree. The first decision is whether to be used as a "surrogate" at all. While many of the businesses that broker "surrogacy" are saying the woman who performs this "service" to their real customers is an "angel", the truth is that women do not become angels, but are still human beings. As human beings they are capable of great suffering.

Too many women used as "surrogates" today are discovering that they are "appreciated" by the adopting people the same way toilet paper is appreciated - once used it is disposed of and forgotten.

Even worse, some women who become "traditional surrogates" - naively contracting to sell their own baby - later discover that not only did THEY suffer from the loss of their child to adoption, but their adopted out son or daughter was adversely affected as well. Not to mention that kept siblings may not be so happy about the sale of their sibling.

The long-term and short-term psychological risks to mother and baby separated at birth have been known for a long time. Hospitals today try to keep mother and baby together to prevent the harm that comes from separating them. Yet, with "traditional surrogacy" the baby is ripped from her mother's arms and given to the stranger that purchased her.

While adoption agencies like to claim that infant adoption is "best" for a child if her parents are young or single (and therefore assumed by some in society to be unfit), it's hard to see how surrogacy could ever be passed off as having ANYTHING to do with caring about the created human being. Even with "gestational surrogacy" the baby is ripped away from the only "maternal environment" she's ever known.

With all the people delaying pregnancy until their 30s or 40s and then discovering they are no longer able to reproduce, there is a huge market for babies. Women are being lured into open adoption, "surrogate motherhood" and egg "donation" is a big way by the businesses that profit from it all.

It's a tragedy for women, being exploited in this way. They should be protected from this by law and so should the potential baby.
