I don't have Jedi's novelization here (that's a shame, I know, but it will be fixed in the given time), but a quick search for `anakin "molten pit"' at google found a discussion board with this:

Right now I am reading ROTJ (and trying to spot my parents from discovering that I am on the computer this late since I'm grounded for...ah...yeah) and it said:
