» ruby43 - Regarding PTSD

Can this manifest itself in varying degrees? I feel like I can recognize it when it happens, and I am not totally incapacitated...but I do have my days when I do not feel like I can handle the memories anymore. The other day, I was cooking breakfast with my daughter, and all she did was make a critical remark about "how I was cooking something"...and it sent me into an emotional tizzy. I felt this overwhelming tightness in my throat, and the tears welled up inside of me....remembering how many times I was standing in the kitchen cooking breakfast, and he would constantly degrade and criticize my cooking, because it wasn't the way he liked it, or the way he did it. Is that not bizarre? Even little things like that still show what a hold on my emotions he had, and still does, and he is not even in the house anymore. It is still present, in familiar activities, or something the kids will do or say, or when a certain song or tv show comes on...it's so profound. I am working on resolving this, and slowly dealing with it so I can accept it and move on. I am just so intrigued by the power of these bad experiences over my daily life.
