» Sunbear - Truth

Hi Renee,

Welcome to the Suite!

Enjoyed your first effort. There is an old saying that goes something like "the truth causes more prolems than most else" (something like this, I do not remember the exact quote).

I wish you much success with your endeavors here at Suite101 and with your writing.

Will be back to see your next article.

Best wishes,
Tom

Good article! It is so true that the truth can hurt. You are right in saying that we need to determine whether someone really needs to know the truth before we tell them.

» Chipka001 - Great Article

It's quite refreshing to see an article of this calibre here at suite101, and I look forward to more. As I read the article, I couldn't help but recall a quote from a character in Frank Herbert's "God Emperor of Dune" or some such book in the Dune Chronicles. Though it didn't specifically speak of truth, it addressed the whole issue of good intentions gone wrong. Being who I am and what I am, I have come to live my life by this quote, after dealing with a few situations in which it became necessary (for self preservation) to hide the truth, not from shame, mind you, just from a desire to continue breathing without artificial assistance.

As I read the article, I couldn't help but think of the line in that Dune-series book in which the protagonist of the novel told another character: "To sit at the edge of he desert and pray for rain does nothing but invite the deluge." The article that has spawned this thread beautifully illustrates that--especially in the context of truth and truthfullness--and I am glad to see it here, stripped of the dogma and misconception that often clings to concepts of truth like a cloud of charged plasma.

Peace.

Hi all

My first message here smile
I apologise if this in the wrong place as I'm still getting to grips with this new site smile

In response to the article.

For me the heart always knows the route to flow. I believe the first step to sharing opinions (truth) with others is to always look for the positive rather than the instant negative. If one flows like a river openly with patience and understanding, love and light is shared openly within and becomes all around.
Maybe the simple route to follow is that of not reacting but absorbing and listening to more than just the words that are being shared.

Thank you

M.O

» jerrib - Truth is powerful

Now that's a head full. It's interesting how we learn not to tell the truth in some situations for the good of the listener. Imagine what the world would be like if we all continued to tell the truth in any situation as adults!
