In response to message posted by leitwrtr:

I have found the idea of soul mates to be one that best describes individuals that we have had much life experience with (from life to life, but not necessarily consecutively). These can manifest as family members, lovers, or even random people we see in our day to day lives.
I believe there are many different "layers" or connections that one can have with soul mates. Some connections seem to pertain more to life patterning, others focus more on the mental body...there are as many types of relationships as there are people (and them some). You can have a soul mate as a romantic partner in one life, and then not in another. There is no "limit" to how we can experience ourselves..
Twin flames pertain more to two individuals that have chosen to pattern their soul design into a unison. This would indeed give the feeling and experience of a "twin". So, while there is a sense of oness between the two (which is actually experienced as one), there is still the separate identity of each one.
Why Twins exist I am still learning about..:-)

But karma and karmic relationships can involve soul mates or not.
Karma is not a bad or good qualification, it is just a guidelines that keeps everything one(for lack of a better description).
It is possible to have good karmic relationships also..so this does not mean that "karmic relationships" must be "transcended" or rid of, rather all relationships can be experienced in the present, knowing that all relationships shall pass and yet continue..
Just a thought...
