Banshee - Ghost, faerie, or something else?Read the article this discussion is about

In response to message posted by cutie_pie_12:The banshee doesn't usually warn the individual of his/her upcoming death, but of a dramatic change--perhaps a tragedy--in the family in general. Traditionally, the practice is to light a beeswax candle if you think you've been warned by a banshee. If the candle burns in an irregular form, leaving a shroudlike shell along one side of the candle, then a death may be imminent. But, I've seen candles burn this way when it forecast nothing at all. Don't take all of this too seriously. It's fabulous lore, but I wouldn't go looking for banshees. Short of finding a Bean Sidhe and sitting her down for a taped interview--which skeptics would dispute anyway--there is no "real" proof beyond centuries of consistent first-person reports.-- posted by eibhlin » majella - Re: Re: Re: thesis on banshees In response to message posted by eibhlin:i have had experiences of banshees in the past and my most recent experience wsa on thursday night and the eraly hours of Friday mornibg. My cousin died on Friday afternoon during herat surgery. I knew as soon as i heard the screeching and whailing what it was. I was with my boyfriend, i heard what he thought was a baby crying, he looked out of the window, i did not.He then remembered that there were no babies in his cul de sac.I knew what it was. I could not sleep and awoke at 2.10am. The screeching was back. I acknowledged what was to happen and it then disappeared.I thougt you may want to hear my experience. Majella -- posted by majella » eibhlin - Yes, that's exactly right In response to message posted by majella:Thanks for sharing that very difficult experience, and accept my sympathies on behalf of Suite 101 for your loss. It's never easy to hear the Banshee, and even those who hear it for the first time often know what it is, immediately. The tragic wailing is when the Banshee sees something that may happen, but cannot do anything about it. And later--and it does sometimes repeat after the death--it is genuine mourning for what has happened. Again, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. -- posted by eibhlin » PunkeyNPink - The Banshee Once I was on a trip in London with my parents and we were staying in a castel-like hotel that was occompanied by many rooms and many guests. In our stay there I was left to fall asleep in a room all of my own. I had a hard time getting to sleep that night, but eventuallyI started to drift off till there was nothing but darkness behind my eyelids. What seemed to be much later, but was no more than three hours later I had been awaken by the most indiscribable shreik that I have never heard till that very night, or what had then become known as morning for it must have had to be three in the morning or so. The scream was the most painful sound that I had ever heard in my entire existance. It seemed to amplify more and more all on its own, and soon surounded me till I awoke to it. This sound could not have been made by any human. There were a pair of drapes that had covered a pair of glass french-typed doors. I looked at them for a few moments to discover that something was out of place. I got up from my bed and walked towards them noticing that they were no longer tied together as I had left them. Curioiusly, I lifted one of the drapes to see if there may have been something on the other side of these doors. And to my utter shock and now terrified self, I was unable to move, not even the slightest wink of an eye. What I saw was a women. Her skin was the purest of white that my eyes had ever looked upon, her hair was long and white as well, but at the top casted an icey blue glow that was hardly even noticeable. Her hair was so thin that you could see the imprint of her ear in it, and it was perfectly straight and in place aside from one stray lock that fell out over her face. She wore a gown that was white, tattered, and flowey. Her fingers were irregularily long with nails the length of three inches. Her face was oval; except slightly wide at the cheek bones. Her nose was slightly pudged and rounded. Her top lip was thin, but her bottom lip was full and pouty. At this moment she stared at me...right into me, like a peircing gaze. Strangely, she had no eyelids. Her eyes were of a matallic black, almost like they were all puple. At first glace you woulden't have been able to tell where she would have been looking, but I could feel her glazed eyes shift to me...peering at me. With what seemed like many moments, but most likey seconds, she was gone. I felt that I shoulden't have told any one about my experience for the sake of their view on my sainity. Until now, I've only told one person who says that I have decsribed a banshee. Now, I have heard of some of the myths concerning the banshee. And I've been told things like that it is a bad omen to be visited by the banshee and that she feeds on sadened souls, or that she is a sign of bad fortune to come. Possibly a death. I belive that now, because a week after this had happend, (I have just become interested in boys. I was twelve years of age. I'd been involved with a certain boy) he was in a terrible car accident, and he did not survive. This action on misfourtune left me with a broken heart that was slowly and gradually repaired. I am fifteen now. It has been three years since. I have tried to forget what has happened, but after talking to my close friend for a while, the subject came up and I decided to tell what I saw, and will never forget it. -- posted by PunkeyNPink » lilbr0wn3y3z - Re: thesis on banshees In response to message posted by aiveen:hi well i was wondering do banshees only visit Irish folk only Scottish because my great grandmother was Scottish so if any one could please answer my question I'll be great full -- posted by lilbr0wn3y3z » Bloodydwarf - Re: Banshee..... In response to Banshee..... posted by cutie_pie_12: Hi this is my first post here hello to everyone. I am responding to this topic because I have heard the banshee and want to discuss this with any who wish to. When I heard it, I was simply standing outside my condo in victoria, canada and I heard what I initially thought was the neighbors three year old catching his hand in the car door. But I looked over and saw the car wasent there, I checked the side of the building to see if a wind tunnel might be making this nasty childlike scream and there was no wind. Then I knew what it was and it stopped. -- posted by Bloodydwarf « Previous 1 2 3 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
