» BetsyTD - Phonological Disorder and Singing

My son is 4 years olds and diagnosed with Phonological Disorder last year. At three, he went to a special preschool for phonological disorder children, exceeded the program and is now is speech therapy with a wonderful therapist 2 times a week. My question is I noticed that he still has difficulty with singing and rhyming. He never has had the capability to sing along with a song or to repeat simple nursery rhymes. Is this part of his disorder and will this effect his reading later on? While his articulation is improving, these two aspects still are a concern. He is approaching 4 1/2 and most of the other preschoolers in his class are rhyming and singing. Just wondering...

I have heard about the use of singing with apraxia therapy. I would like more information on this subject, how is singing used in therapy?

In response to message posted by schatze:

Hi! My name is Misty Thomas, I am looking for information on DAS and congnition. My son has developmental apraxia of speech and I am writing a research paper for a Psychology-Cognition class on speech development. Due to my personal interest in apraxia, I would like to focus on cognition and the development of speech for apraxic children. Do you by any chance have any information on this topic, or do you know where I could find any? Thank you! Misty

» Dianas_Dad - Research paper on Developmental Apraxia

Misty(Endless_mystery2)Feb 1,2002
Would you mind sending me a copy of your research paper? Byemaill orsnailmaill. My wife and I have three girls and our youngest "Diana" is 6 years old and has developmentalapraxiaa of speech. I thought your research paper would help us understand more about Diana's condition and what we can do to help her.
I found this web site in my search of a school specializing in this area. I live near Charlotte, NC and have just started looking. If anyone knows of such a school, I look forward to hearing from you and will check postings often.
