» SqueekyC - ADHD AND LEARNING DISABLED To read your e-mail about what you have been through as an adult with ADD, etc.; I would like to congratulate you on your success. Two of our children have a form of ADD. My oldest daughter, who is soon to be 18 yrs. old wants to go to college; but the present school district is trying to get her to take the Vocational school route. I understand the district's choices, but it appears that there are options for people with challenges. Have you ever heard of anyone attending college who has difficulties remembering things when it comes to taking their tests? Also, do any colleges offer special circumstances to help a person with challenges such as ADD and/or LD get into a college? I do not know if our daughter would pass the PSAT or ACT/SAT tests currently.Any info that you have or if you know where I can get that type of info about college entrance for challenged individuals, would be greatly appreciated. -- posted by SqueekyC » HollySitler - Differences I am the mother of a disabled daughter. Over the years the many of the doctors, teachers, therapists and other adults who have worked with her have viewed her disabilities as holding her back. I was told so many time that she will never be able to talk, walk, and do much of anything. What I saw as just difference they saw as things keeping her from doing everyday tasks. She has a muscle condition, hearing and vision impairments and a long list of other health problems. She has had 4 major surgeries, over 100 outpatient procedures and appointments 3 to 5 days a week in both the morning and afternoon. But through all of this she has surpassed the goals I set for her and even the one she set for herself when she said her first sentence. Even though she is still a special education student she can now walk, talks and has recently been able to keep up with her peers. She knows and understands how to maintain her health. She knows the risks as well as when she needs medical attention. She knows that she has to work harder than her peers. She is different but then aren't we all.-- posted by HollySitler
