» Renie_Burghardt - One Child...I Used To Know Oh, Mary, this story made my cry! So very, very sad. Breaks one's heart. Thank you for sharing it.What a great topic. I am subscribing to it. See you again soon, Mary! Renie -- posted by Renie_Burghardt » ierne - Heartbreaking... I recognized so much in that story Mary. A child so willing to please, that can't get out of the social problems that will drag him down.Jeff had a light at the end of the tunnel for a while, and you will probably never know how much it meant to him, not just your friendship, but your guidance as well. The reason I recognize so much in this story is my husband is a former foster child. His bio-mother would regularly lock him out of the apartment while "The baby is sleeping". He was gone for five days at age 9, and although his bio-mother and step-father knew where he was, they left him to starve. Kid that he was, he still went to school, and thankfully a kind hearted teacher reported the dirty, smelly, obviously hungry kid to the authorities. Unfortunately he had to stand there while his mother told everyone he wasn't welcome in her home. That she didn't want him. I was given access to his files when he turned 18 simply because I was living with him at the time, and he shared them with me. According to social workers, my husband was not in the wrong - simply an unwanted child. His bio-mother did go to court though earlier on when his bio-father wanted custody. Jay never saw his father again. His mother allowed one scheduled visit, and then she diappeared as well. He has never seen her since, although we thought she may have been staying at Ronald McDonald house the same time we were (our daughter was in the hospital). That woman disappeared and scratched her name out of the guestbook, after colliding with us in the hall. Anyway. Jay was in 13 foster homes within 5 years. A child who hasn't known love or caring doesn't know how to respond. A child who has been beaten, will strike back at a stranger. Unfortunately, CFS in this area is terrible. Finally, he found a family who was young enough to remember what it was like. And they loved him enough to let him go. And now he's mine...(grin). -- posted by ierne » Tina_Coruth - What a tragic story. Hi Mary,Thank you for sharing this tragic story. As difficult as it is to read, it is so very important that it be told. And you did a great job writing this. Thank you. Tina -- posted by Tina_Coruth
