Dar, I have to say that if I celebrated Labor Day this menu sure would be a winner. Regretfully, I always have to work that day so it isn't a holiday for me. sad But, there's always a reason to celebrate with food - right? LOL

Although I'm not Southern I have lots of fond memories of my late, Southern-born aunt's cooking. The only problem is that she never used recipes and I don't know of anyone in the family who may know them. Hmmmm! Will have to contact her daughter some time and see if she has a clue.

Looking forward to future articles and of course more recipes. smile

Hugs,
T

LOL I'm the same way! No recipes written down for anything. So if the recipe calls for "2 cups" it's because the plop I threw on there "looked like about 2 cups" smile and the reason I use that amount is because the plop granny threw on there looked like 2 cups LOL

I think passing down recipes is very important, and I'm glad that I've got this topic so that I'll finally get a round to it. My nieces will appreciate that I did one day smile

Too bad you have to work on Labor Day! I'll have to eat an extra helping for you until you get a day off to cook all that LOL And yep, any day is a good day to celebrate with food (says the chubby girl from TN) hahahaa I'm always amazed when I begin cooking and people just start showing up by instinct... that's how I got my Dave smile

Love & Hugs,
Dar

Dumb question, and I hope I did this right...

on the baked beans, it doesn't say to drain the pineapple so I put the juice and all in the beans. Also, the bacon goes in raw, right? That's what hubby said to do after he read the instructions. I just wanted to clarify! They look good. I use Bush's too, they are the best IMO!

Got any good breakfast recipes that I could use for church one Sunday? I am supposed to provide breakfast at the end of September for my sunday school class. Last time I cooked for it, I made two breakfast casseroles which were a hit!

Yes, I use the juice... it looks thin at first but thickens as it cooks in with the brown sugar, and the beans soak it up yuuummm smile And yep, the bacon lays right on top raw.

Oh yeah! I've got some great breakfast recipes! Do y'all have a waffle maker at the church? And how many come to your breakfasts? I'll post a few different ideas later on today. I'd love to hear your breakfast casseroles, too! That sounds like a great idea!

Dar

No, it has to be something I can make at home and take with me smile No waffle maker!! I am thinking more like casseroles or something...

Breakfast Casserole
Makes 6 to 8 servings

A great dish for a brunch or when your house is filled with visitors. Just mix up the ingredients the night before, then leave a note for the first one up to put it in the oven. By the time everyone is up and coffee is made, breakfast will be ready.

Ingredients:
1 pound breakfast sausage, removed from casings, or bacon
6 slices day-old white bread, cubed
6 eggs, beaten
2 Cups milk
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Prepared mustard
1 Cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Directions:
Fry the sausage or bacon until done. Drain well. Lightly grease a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish. Place the bread in the dish and top with the meat. Mix together the eggs, milk, salt, mustard, and cheese. Pour over the meat. Refrigerate overnight. In the morning, preheat the oven to 350degreesF. Bake the casserole for 50 minutes.

Okay, I'll write you up some recipes for stuff you can make ahead of time. I'll try to get them posted tonight or in the a.m. Dave's doing guy's night out tonight, so I should have time tonight.

Love & Hugs,
Dar - oh, and thanks again for the great recipe!

Your welcome. As you can tell, recipes are a passion of mine, especially when I find one's that my whole family enjoys!!

I have found that the casserole comes out better if you cover it while it cooks for the first 30 minutes and then uncover it for the remaining time. Also, it comes out better if you use a glass dish instead of a metal non-stick one. Don't know why that is. I'm guessing because since I spray non-stick spray in it first, that it browns it more on the non-stick one and I don't like it so brown.

I like how things cook in glass casserole dishes. Oh, and over at your site, your Quesadillas sound great! (Everyone go check it out!) I do those a lot, too, when I need a nice quick meal.

Yes, your nickname suits you well! LOL I have to say again that I'm glad this site makes me write all my recipes down because I probably have your same addiction but all my recipes are in my head... frustrating when someone wants a recipe for something they just ate LOL I have to think it up smile And sometimes my brain doesn't function properly hahaha

Oh, I should go write my pickle recipe down over at the kitchen table. See ya later!

Love & Hugs,
Dar
