It can be gratifying, but it can also be terrifying. I've talked with a couple of people who inadvertently visited places where they'd had traumatic experiences. If you suddenly feel frightened or anxious & don't know why, that can be a very unsettling experience.

However, I do feel that we are often drawn to certain areas because of past connections there. For instance, I wanted to visit Orkney from the time I was a child. I can remember saying at age 9 or 10 that I wanted to go there, even though I wasn't really sure where Orkney was.
