» jane1229 - A Reason for it?

Whoever sells soaps thinks that women who watch them want someone to take care of them. All of us can feel that way at times. The networks figure that the women who watch soaps are the ones that feel that way more often than not. They sell the fantasy that no matter what bad guys there are out there, you will be protected by your strong male. No matter what you do to bring problems on for yourself, he will take over the responsibility.

Frequently, male soap characters are given lines about "protecting" the woman they love. Even leaving her and pretending they don't love her in order to protect her. Whoever thinks that is true love, values security more than anything. The traditional stereotype is that woman pick the man with the money over the man with just sexiness, for that reason. The soap is the fantasy of having both, perhaps. Or at least, it is what the producers think the soap audience wants.
