» Ginger36 - Although you are right that there really is a need for turning o Although you are right that there really is a need for turning over the cast by bringing in new characters and killing off others, it seems that the writers fail when they don't use that opportunity for dramatic scenes of repercussion that follow it or use that death to propel a story. The audience certainly has to care about the character. Do you remember the death of O'Reilly during Gloria Monty's tenure on GH? It was so shocking and upsetting. The characters on the show had lots of dramatic opportunity for grieving and the death propelled the Ice Princess story. Contrast that with the death of Alcazar. Did anyone care who murdered him? They tried to use the death to propel the story, but the character was so despicable...did anyone really care? Rick Webber's death could have been an opportunity for extraordinary dramatic repercussions throughout the cast. That never happened. There was no funeral, no grieving ex-wife, friends or co-workers. The potential of this traumatic event was never realized. If the writers want to kill off a character, they should have it resonate. Otherwise, they should go quietly without fanfare.-- posted by Ginger36
