Hello Esther.

Thanks for the very interesting article. Not only snails and slugs are my favorite organisms, also fungi. So this article is two times interesting for me.
I think, that the snail leaves its droppings in the wound, that, why the snail eat the fungus, there will be a severe concentration of spores from the fungus in the droppings. Spores most of the time do not die in the digestive tract. When we eat Roquefort, the spores do not die either. So this snail is very "smart", to do this. It is wonderful!
