your ending sentence, but I think experience and expertise have a lot to do with it, too. But then, this is why you fly, right? For the excitement?

I do still feel a thrill when the wheels leave the ground and I become a part of the air. There is an old saying among pilots that "flying is 99 percent boredom and 1 percent sheer terror," which of course overstates both ends of the spectrum. I never seem to be bored when I'm in the air, but my moments of adrenaline-producing excitement usually lead to lessons I try not to repeat in the future. I hope I always enjoy the thrill and adventure, and that I can pass that along to my students.
